Doomben Cup Day
What drama there was as one of the outsiders, The Bostonian, took out the TAB Doomben 10,000 on Saturday at the Brisbane Racing Carnival. For some of our players at Swopstakes this result wasn’t bad as a few tickets had the selection included in them allowing a handful of players to survive into the final race of the day.
With a further four days of action coming from Doomben and Eagle Farm over the rest of May and into June there are plenty more opportunities to enjoy top quality winter racing from Queensland with plenty of chances to play and win in the latest social sweepstake game, Swopstakes.
Doomben Cup Preview
Next racing comes from Doomben this Saturday 18th May. Be sure to get your tickets and play again on what should be more thrilling racing in Queensland on what is Doomben Cup Day. You can catch all the action of this year’s Carnival on Channel 7, or 7 Mate, or if you are out and about in your local pub or club be sure to keep an eye on Sky Racing and stay up to date with how your tickets are performing.
This year’s Doomben Cup currently sees Youngstar as favourite for the race, the 4 year old mare is a stable mate of the mighty Winx and ran very well last year at Flemington to finish second to her in the Turnbull Stakes over 2,000 metres, which is the same distance as today’s race. Other reasons that you might want to ensure getting Youngstar in some of your tickets is that this time last year she won twice at Doomben including the Group 1 Queensland Oaks, so she clearly knows what it takes to win at the course. With plenty of positives around having Youngstar in one of your tickets, it is also worth noting that only two mares have won the race this century.
Another runner who has been popular in the betting this week, and is worth considering for the Cup, is also trained by Chris Waller, is Life Less Ordinary. He is a six-year-old gelding and has become a heavily fancied winner of the race having won the Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast on the 4th May.
Swopstakes Insights
Winners of that race have a very good record when running in the Doomben Cup. With 5 horses having completed the double this century it could be worth making sure that Life Less Ordinary is included in your ticket especially as trainer Chris Waller is doing so well at the moment in the big races.
Some other insights which might help you when deciding on which runners to consider: only two three-year olds have ever won the race. Do you think that history could be made with a third winning three-year-old?
Then again you might want to look at the stats as to which barrier has been the luckiest for horses to win the Cup from. If that is the way that you might want to go about making your selection then it is worth considering that since the early 1980’s there are 3 barriers which have produced the most wins namely 2,4 and 11.
Whilst the Group 1 Doomben Cup is the main event on Saturday, the card also features two other high quality races; The Roses, which is a Group 2 event also over the 2,000 metres and The BRC Sprint, a Group 3 event over 1,350 metres.
