AFL Preliminary Final

Who will go through to the “big dance” (GF) next week from these two top quality preliminary final contests that we get to watch this weekend. It starts off on Friday night at the Adelaide Oval with ladder leaders Port off the back of a weeks spell taking on the Richmond Tigers. Port finished top of the home and away for a reason and Richmond returned to some good form last week whilst advancing to their 4th consecutive prelim final.

On Saturday night it is back to the Gabba with home team Brisbane after their week off taking on the Geelong Cats off the back of one of the best ever finals winning performances last week against the Pies. This will be a great battle of the midfields with team that wins the clearances winning the game.

Port Adelaide V Richmond - First Preliminary Final

Who will captain, Tom Jonas, go to out of the Tigers’ dominant forwards – Lynch or Riewoldt – to nullify their influence when the footy comes in? Boak, Rockcliff, Wines versus Martin, Cotchin & Graham will be a tough affair and well worth following as the clearances from centre bounces will be vital to the final outcome. Motlop for Port has been solid as a goal scoring small forward and who can forget Shai Bolton’s start to last week’s game for the Tigers.

These match-ups and team options will play out during the course of the match and both teams will be fighting hard to go into that last game of the season and potentially become Premiers. Richmond, back to form last week, will give a great showing but it is the consistent Port with a strong belief in themselves that will see them advance to the Grand Final.

Brisbane V Geelong - Second Preliminary Final

Going in with no changes to either side, this will be a very even and tough contest. The Cats bounced back last week with an emphatic performance and win that will give them great confidence going up against the in-form Lions. Both teams have quality elite players in Neale (Lions) and Dangerfield (Cats) who can turn and/or win games through their own performances and it will be vital to the winning side that their mid range and bottom six perform well as this is where the game will be won or lost. An even performance from every member of the team is the key to this game.

The Cats have missed finals once only in the last 15 seasons and this will give them the experience edge, but the belief in themselves and their coaching staff has the Lions playing some great footy and understanding they can beat any side they come up against – both sides will go in very confident. We’re with The Cats to win a very close game.
