AFL Finals - First Round
What a great first round of tough finals footy we have just watched, with Collingwood getting home in a one point thriller over the Eagles in Perth to finish the weekend. Coach Buckley’s emotional rejoicing after the gaming and miming “that is one of four boys” indicates the mission the Pies are on for the remainder of the finals. The Cats never looked like winning and poor kicking didn’t help but Port finally has everyone sitting up and believing what they themselves have believed all year - they are genuine Premiership contenders.
Richmond’s arrogance and undisciplined play was all the Lions needed to ensure their tough, hard at the ball approach would be all that was required to both match and defeat the finals experienced Tigers. The Saints and Bulldogs put on another great display with the Saints remaining strong to finish over the top to play again this week against the Tigers.
Two great games coming our way this weekend with the Tiges taking on the Saints at Metricon Stadium on Friday night, and the Cats playing their arch rivals Collingwood at the Gabba on Saturday night.
Richmond V St Kilda - Semi Final One
The second week of the finals with the losing team heading back to Melbourne for their end of season review. Will the Tigers go out in straight sets? Brett Rattan has done a great job moulding his team together this year and to play finals is a great advancement in the Club’s planned progression toward a premiership in the coming seasons. No Ryder (hammy), Long (suspended) Carlisle (personal reasons) are big outs for the Saints and with Lynch back in for the Tiges up forward and coach Hardwick having remedied the over-confidence his team displayed last week, we should see a good Tigers win advancing them to the preliminary final against Port next week.

Saints - will come out strong - Hold
QTR 4: 1st Goal Scorer
Riewoldt (Tigers)
QTR 4: Last Goal Scorer
Castagna - roving the pack ceiling a Tigers win
Geelong V Collingwood - Semi Final Two
Will the finals losing hoodoo continue for the Cats against their arch rivals Collingwood who have beaten them in their last two starts? These sides match up very well right across the ground and it could be who wins the centre bounces, and clears it out of the middle, that wins the game. Parfitt’s game last week was very strong and he again will be one to watch. Daicos has been in great form and he combined with the elusive Pendlebury and the explosive DeGoey & will create a real challenge for the Cats to overcome. Hawkins (5 points last week) surely could not kick that poorly again and could easily be the hero this week, enabling the Cats to win a final over a quality Pies side.
